Weekly Update!

Several important due dates on the horizon for seniors:
  • World Literature Papers must be submitted by February 1, following the manuscript requirements as distributed by Mrs. Gordon. They must be submitted electronically to turnitin.com by February 21. If anyone needs the submissions guidelines, click here.
  • The next draft [as close to final as possible] for the TOK Essay is due on February 7.
  • The History IA rough draft is due on February 11.
This week's agenda -

Monday -
  • IB English IV (Mrs. Peteranecz) - Quiz on Parts 4 and 5 of Crime and Punishment. Groups responsible for presenting Part 1 will present today.
  • IB Theory of Knowledge (Mr. Butcher) - There is a quiz on Chapter 11: Arts.
Tuesday -
  • IB English IV (Mrs. Peteranecz) - The 4 paper copies [2 of each] of World Lit Papers are due. Remember to follow the proper submission guidelines.
  • IB Chemistry (Mrs. Atkins) - The lipids lab is due.
Wednesday -
  • IB Biology III/IV (Mrs. Bidwell) - There is a test on Genetics, Topics 4 and 10. Assessment statements are due, as always.
  • IB Spanish IV (Señor Alemañy) - The essay about Trópico de Sangre, the movie we watched about the Mirabal sisters, is due. Minimum word count: 250. FOR 1ST PERIOD.
Thursday -
  • IB Spanish IV (Señor Alemañy) - The essay about Trópico de Sangre, the movie we watched about the Mirabal sisters, is due. Minimum word count: 250
Friday -
  • IB Chemistry (Mrs. Atkins) - There is a test on Topic 2: Atomic Structure. All worksheets, in addition to the assessment statements and IB Challenge questions, are due.

Weekly Update!

Many thanks to Zachary Decker for his contribution of Pre-IB Chem vocabulary and Integrated Science chapter outlines!

Seniors, remember that Mr. Butcher expects an updated TOK essay draft to be completed by February 7. Additionally, midyear reports can now be requested from Ms. Marzluff by filling out the appropriate request form in her office.

Donate old AP/IB/etc. guides to National Honor Society--on Tuesday, these will be sold to underclassmen at a discount price, with all proceeds going to Relay for Life. Bring any donations to Mrs. Bidwell's room.

Weekly Update!

Okay everyone, exam week is here!

The 5th period exam will take place on Tuesday in the time slot for 4th and 5th period. Wednesday: 1st/2nd, Thursday: 3rd/4th. Friday: 6th/7th. Dismissal is at 12:00 p.m. from Wednesday through Friday.

This post will mostly be about known exam content, but remember to have Part I of Crime and Punishment read by Monday!

Exams -

  • IB Chemistry (Mrs. Atkins) - The test will consist completely of IB questions, so review all the worksheets that we have been given. To turn in: Environmental Take-Home Portion, Vitamins/Hormones Worksheet [C3. State the name of a disease..., 2 pages long], Energy Problems [(Question C1 continued) 1.00 g of sucrose..., 2 problems, 1 page], "Worksheet Vitamins and Nutrients" [Vitamins may be classified as... 1 page, double-sided], "Worksheet 3 Vitamins and Hormones" [The structures of three important... 1 page, single-sided], Nucleic Acids Worksheets [C3. The structures of the bases present in nucleotides... 3 pages, double-sided, back of last page is a repeat], Assessment Statements B.5 - B.9.
  • IB Math HL (Mr. Bobbitt) - Paper III, Calculus and Stats. 13-14: A, 11-12: B, 10-11: C, etc.
  • IB English IV (Mrs. Peteranecz) - The Individual Oral Commentary functions as a semester exam grade.
  • IB Biology III/IV (Mrs. Bidwell) - Paper I and a DBQ.
  • IB History of the Americas (Mr. Jones) - Questions from the previous tests. Students are allowed to review [not copy] old questions after school on Monday.
  • IB Theory of Knowledge (Mr. Butcher) - 50 multiple-choice questions that were reviewed in class last week.

Heart of Darkness, Passages

Someone just asked me to list the passages that were previously assigned for analysis in Heart of Darkness, so...

Weekly Update!

It's time for our two weeks of vacation to come to an end...at least it was great while it lasted.

Learning Connection is hosting a Study Skills Session: Exam Version on Wednesday, after school in the Media Center.

School will resume as usual tomorrow, with exams beginning next week. The 5th period exam will take place on Tuesday in the time slot for 4th and 5th period. Wednesday: 1st/2nd, Thursday: 3rd/4th. Friday: 6th/7th. Dismissal is at 12:00 p.m. from Wednesday through Friday.

Some things to prepare for, other than exams:
  • IB English IV (Mrs. Peteranecz) - Individual oral presentations begin January 7th: Click the appropriate links for the Schedule and Instruction Packet. Material covered: Yeats ("Adam's Curse," "The Wild Swans at Coole," Easter 1916," "The Second Coming," and "Sailing to Byzantium"), Frost ("After Apple Picking," "Out-Out," "Birches," "Design"), Hamlet, and Heart of Darkness. Autumn McConnico created guides on the Yeats and Frost, as well as a summary of Hamlet, which are accessible via the Document Index. The Assessment Criteria are also accessible via the Index.
  • IB Spanish IV (Señor Alemañy) - Individual oral presentations begin January 19th, after the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on the 17th and the teacher planning day on the 18th.

  • IB Theory of Knowledge (Mr. Butcher) - There is a quiz on Chapter 10: History. Come to class with a list of 10 quotes that resonate with you; ones that you either highly like or dislike. Update: Put the quotes as a journal entry.
Wednesday -
  • IB Biology IV (Mrs. Bidwell) - The Hardy-Weinberg population simulation lab is due. If the handout is no longer in your possession [Anthony...], access it here. The instructions for the simulation can be found in the handout and additional info is from the simulation's own instructions.
Thursday -
  • IB HL Math (Mr. Bobbitt) - Paper III, Statistics.
  • IB Chemistry (Mrs. Atkins) - The Protein/Amino Acid Lab is due.
  • IB History of the Americas (Mr. Jones) - There is a quiz on Cuba.
Friday -
  • IB HL Math (Mr. Bobbitt) - Paper III, Calculus.
  • IB Biology IV (Mrs. Bidwell) - The DNA Extraction lab is due.
  • IB Chemistry (Mrs. Atkins) - Bring along materials [Orgo book, IB guides, etc.] to work on worksheets, assessment statements, etc. as Mrs. Atkins will be absent.
