Weekly Update!

Congratulations, everyone (yes, again)! We have FINALLY reached the LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL FOR THE 2008-2009 SCHOOL YEAR! :D

The following are study tips for this week's final exams.

IB Spanish III (Sr. Alemañy) - The exam will be on Capítulo 8, so study the vocabulary and the readings in that chapter of the textbook.

IB Theatre I (Mrs. Brooks) - Simply review the in-class review notes that you should have taken last week in class, and you will be fine. Remember that all questions will be open-/free-response questions, so be sure to bring notebook paper and a pen/pencil.

AP English Literature and Composition (Mr. Murray) - The analysis of your World Literature Paper 1 will be due as the final exam grade.

AP U.S. History (Mr. Rose) - Be sure to study all of the old practice AP multiple-choice tests, as the final exam will come entirely from those tests.

Monday - MEMORIAL DAY (NO SCHOOL)

Tuesday -

• IB Theatre I (Mrs. Brooks) - The 30 stimuli will be due. Remember that you must have 5 for nature, 5 for people, 5 for art, 5 for trash, 2 for animals, 2 for words, 1 for poems, and 5 for music.
• AP Chemistry (Mrs. Smith) - All extra credit will be due.

Thursday - Dismissal at 11:45 AM

• AP English Literature and Composition (Mr. Murray) - World Literature Paper 2 will be due. Remember that it must be between 1000-1500 words. While this is a rough draft (we'll edit it next year), keep in mind that it will eventually count as 10% of your final IB English A1 HL score, so try to make this rough draft as perfect as possible.

Congratulations, everyone! The 2009 AP exams are finally over! This is also the last full week of school!

This week's agenda:

Monday -

• IB Theatre I (Mrs. Brooks) - The two required play critiques (plus additional critiques for extra credit) will be due. Remember to analyze all aspects of the play, including directing, concept, acting, set, costumes, lights, sound, and staging.
  
• AP U.S. History (Mr. Rose) - Textbooks will be due. Please remember to bring yours.
  
• AP Chemistry (Mrs. Smith) - We will begin the tie-dye lab. Please remember to bring an appropriate white, cotton garment (no undergarments or "booty shorts").
  

Tuesday (IB Geography at Pensacola Junior College, Room 252)-

Wednesday (IB Geography at Pensacola Junior College, Room 252)-

• IB Spanish III (Sr. Alemañy) - Essays on In the Time of the Butterflies will be due. Remember that all essays must be 200 words (and obviously in Spanish).
  

Thursday -

• IB Spanish III (Sr. Alemañy) - Essays on In the Time of the Butterflies will be due for all of those that took IB Geography. See guidelines above.
• AP English Literature and Composition (Mr. Murray) - World Literature Paper 1 will be due. Remember that it must be between 1000-1500 words. • IB Theatre I (Mrs. Brooks) - Portfolios will be due. Be sure to have all journal entries completed. A list of the journal entries will be posted as a guide relatively soon.

AP English Language and Composition Exam

Section I consists of 50-55 multiple choice questions, which account for 45% of your grade. You are given 60 minutes to complete Section I. In Section II, you are expected to write three essays in 120 minutes, with the first 15 minutes being given for reading and planning. Section II accounts for 55% of your grade and consists of the following three essays:

• Synthesis: Similar to a DBQ on the history exams, this essay requires you to examine several sources into an essay that either explains something or argues a point.
• Argumentative: Form a cohesive argument towards a topic and support your viewpoint through the use of examples – “refute, support, or qualify.”
• Analysis: After reading a passage, analyze elements of the passage using elements of the text as support for your claims.

***Remember to use present tense.

Alright! AP exams start this week! Hope everyone's ready! In addition, Pensacola Children's Chorus will present Showtime! 2009 on Friday and Saturday of this week. If you're interested, get your tickets ASAP as they're going fast! GBJ staff Seth and Gabe Friedman will both be in the performance.

• IB Theatre I (Mrs. Brooks) - We will be continuing the nature object monologues. Be prepared.
• AP U.S. History (Mr. Rose) - Any and all extra credit will be due NO LATER than today. Remember that you can complete UP TO THREE (3) extra prompt assignments for extra credit. Please do not submit any more than that.
  
• AP Chemistry (Mrs. Smith) - We will be continuing the final exam/practice AP exam. Study hard. Remember that we will be correcting it in class on Tuesday. Be sure to attend class that day!

• AP Chemistry (Mrs. Smith) - We will be correcting the practice AP exam in class. Be sure to attend!
  

Wednesday (AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC at East Brent Baptist Gym, Upstairs)-

• AP English Literature and Composition (Mr. Murray) - Topics for World Lit Paper 1 will be due (even if you have an AP exam). Be sure to get it in!

APEH (Jones) Quiz

Hey, guys. Just wanted to remind everyone that there will be a quiz on chapter 30 from Western Experience tomorrow for Mr. Jones' class. He forgot to tell third period, but hopefully everyone gets the news.

We will also be having a test on Tuesday, May the fifth. I'll post the chapters here as soon as he tells us. The test covers everything after WWI: the Russian Revolution, Interwar period, WWII, and the Cold War. Good luck, everyone!

AP Biology Exam

I will be publishing a guide to the AP Biology exam throughout the night in parts:

• Part I: Molecules and Cells (25%) -- Done! 8:25 pm
  
• Part II: Heredity and Evolution (25%) -- Done! 10:00 pm
